Outdoor Artworks at the Technopôle Angus
The Technopôle Angus is a thriving community, where businesses, local shops and a residential complex come together to create a vibrant and innovative environment. To further enrich this unique living space, Groupe Angus has acquired four outdoor artworks, thoughtfully integrated into the heart of this eco-district. Come discover them on your next visit!
Trains de vie
By Roger Langevin
Location: Place Léopold Beaulieu — 2023
The work depicts human beings interacting in dialogue on or around a bench. Arranged longitudinally, these dyads, which are both independent and linked by theme, unfold as if they were, temporally, a sequence of lives (the same bench captured at different moments) or, spatially, scenes taking place simultaneously, reflecting both the uniqueness of human beings and their similarity, their interdependence, just as the passengers on a train occupying different carriages are interdependent.
In a world increasingly determined by new technologies, the depth of human relationships and the strength of the social fabric appear essential to protect against certain phenomena of isolation and anxiety. To make this an open and intergenerational sculptural subject, it is necessary to capture the immediacy of these exchanges between two people while transcending the purely external, anecdotal aspect to also convey the inner life, the essence (and meaning) of human relationships.
Although the benches are not physically connected to each other as train cars would be, they are linked by their common theme: exchange, communication established between a diversity of individuals whose personalities are assertive and anything but anonymous. In this context, this humanistic work is a formal nod to the history of the Angus Shops and the urban diversity that characterizes the Technopôle Angus today, where all kinds of uses coexist; a space where professional and personal life projects intersect to make it one of the most innovative, peaceful, and dynamic neighborhoods in the city.
La Tour et l’Appartement
By Vincent Larouche
Location : Place Charles Larouche — 2024
La Tour et l’Appartement invite us to contemplate a place where abstraction converges with the tangible forms of reality.
These works offer a subtle testimony to the transformation of the Montreal area and, in doing so, lead us to reflect on the essence of a city: this evolving superstructure located at the crossroads of contemporary challenges.
Toujours
By Ben Johnston
Location: Corridor between Charles Larouche and Michel Hébert Squares – 2024
Ben Johnston’s distinctive style is displayed on the wall of a building on the îlot central at Technopôle Angus. It features the word “toujours” (always), boldly presented in an assertive font, in a cameo of oranges that intensifies the depth of the work. Each letter intertwines and connects with the next, forming a long chain. The word “toujours” symbolizes the durability of the eco-district project, distinguished by its commitment to innovation, affordable social housing, ecological construction and the enhancement of public space.
